Apple iPhone 5 will put Samsung Galaxy S III to shame: Foxconn CEO

Thursday, June 21, 2012 0 comments

NEW DELHI: The smartphone war between Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy series is set to heat up further with a top official associated with the company that assembles the iPhone saying that Apple's next offering, iPhone 5, will put Samsung GalaxyS III to shame.

"Consumers should wait for the iPhone 5 because it will put the Samsung Galaxy S III to shame," a report published in Focus Taiwan quoted Foxconn CEO Terry Gou as saying in China Times.

Foxconn assembles iPhone and other Apple products.

According to the report, Gou did not divulge details of the iPhone5 but talked about the new partnership with display manufacturer Sharp during Foxconn's annual shareholder's meeting.

Gou also claimed that Sharp's cutting-edge display manufacturing facilities in Sakai City, Osaka, Japan will give Foxconn a three-year lead on Samsung.

"With (Foxconn's) marketing and manufacturing strengths and Sharp's key technologies, the two will be able to defeat their arch-rival Samsung," the report in Focus Taiwan added.

Ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S3, company scores another good news

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 0 comments

May 1st, 2012, 1:46 P.M. — Samsung leading smartphone shipment-contest, beating Apple, Nokia and Research in Motion. The new data arrived ahead of the anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 launch this week.
Samsung Mobile, the top Android phone maker, bagged yet another positive news revealing that its smartphone lineup attracted more customers than smartphones of its rivals like Apple and Nokia.
According to IDC’s latest findings, Samsung Mobile shipped more smartphones than its smartphone market rivals with an impressive 29.1 per cent of the market or 42.2 million smartphones shipped, bigger than Apple’s iPhone record of 35.1 million or 24.2 per cent of the market. The former mobile phone leader, Nokia, lags behind Apple and Samsung with a single digit Q1 2012 record of 11.2 million only, and about 8.2 per cent of the total lucrative smartphone market.
Research in Motion, ahead of its BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system, is still struggling with 9.7 million and around 6.7 per cent of the market. Another Android phone maker, Taiwan’s HTC corporation, is stuck with a single digit Q1 finish, 6.1 million smartphones and 4.8 per cent share.
The new good news for Samsung came ahead of the widely anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 that will reportedly get a Q2 international release date, and with United States wireless carrier support, Samsung is expected to ship the new device to the U.S. before Q4. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, a new display with more pixels per inch, and reportedly includes a new camera sensor. The Samsung Galaxy S3, analysts believe, is the device that will compete against Apple’s iPhone 5, and Microsoft’s Windows 8 smartphones including Nokia’s next-gen Lumia devices that will reportedly ship with the new operating system.
Apple’s iPhone 4S, according to IDC, is the most popular smartphone of Apple inc, followed by the 2-year old iPhone 4. Samsung’s Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note, apparently, allowed Samsung to maintain its smartphone growth.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note is now available in United States with 4G LTE or Long Term Evolution running under AT&T’s banner. The new Galaxy Note, according to reviews, is an innovative device that sits between the smartphone and tablet categories. The Galaxy Note features a 5.3-inch screen, Android Gingerbread operating system, a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.4GHz, an 8-megapixel camera, and a stylus pen called “S Pen.”
According to online retailers, the Samsung Galaxy Note is “more expensive” than the year-old Samsung Galaxy S2, but they expect to see a continuous price drop over the coming quarters because the Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to take the top end spot of the high-end smartphone category.

Samsung more popular than Apple !!

Sarcastic new adverts are giving Samsung's Galaxy Nexus the edge over Apple's iPhone, a key poll has claimed

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Nexus campaign is boosting the smartphone brand's reputation, with popularity levels rising above Apple’s iPhone last week, according to a YouGov survey of US consumers.
The adverts poke fun at Apple fans who camp outside stores for the latest iPhone release, as well as taking a swing at the device’s poor battery life and lack of 4G connectivity. While reminiscent of Apple’s own “Get a Mac” campaign, which took explicit jabs at Microsoft back in 2006, Samsung’s adverts cleverly avoid naming Apple or its flagship phone.

The iPhone’s reputation fell at the time of Samsung’s first advert in late November. At the same time, according to YouGov's BrandIndex 'buzz score', there was an upward trend in Samsung’s popularity.

A record number of Samsung handsets has already been sold this year, and the release of the Galaxy Nexus, Google's new flagship device, means the trend is set to continue. Now it appears Samsung’s brand perception is also on the rise, leaving Apple behind for the first time since the launch of the iPhone.

According to the poll, the respective rise and fall in perception of Samsung and Apple is found mostly in adults aged 50 and over. It is likely that the lack of anticipated features such as 4G in this year’s iPhone 4S played a significant role in shaping these perceptions. The shifting attitudes will put further pressure on Apple to impress with their next iteration of the iPhone, expect in summer 2012.

Ever since it first peeked its sizable Super AMOLED face out from behind the curtain, anticipation for the Galaxy S II has been tough to tamp down. As the months have worn on though, Americans have simply been left wondering when (if ever) they'd be able to start leaving fingerprints all over one of their own. Well, we finally have an answer... kinda. President of Samsung's mobile division, Shin Jong-kyun, told reporters on Wednesday, "we expect to release the Galaxy S II in the US market sometime in August." So there you go -- on some undetermined date, for some undetermined price, with some undetermined carrier, you'll finally be able to get your greasy little paws on a Galaxy S II next month. It's not much, but hey, it's better than nothing.

Apple seeks ban on import of Samsung devices in US

NEW YORK: Apple Inc has filed a US trade complaint to block Samsung Electronics Co from importing a variety of electronic devices, less than one week after Samsung sought to stop imports of Apple's popular iPads and iPhones.

The complaint filed with the US International Trade Commission in Washington, DC escalates a patent infringement battle also being waged in South Korea, where Samsung is based

The complaint filed with the US International Trade Commission in Washington, DC escalates a patent infringement battle also being waged in South Korea, where Samsung is based.

Apple began the fight, contending in an April 15 complaint filed in a San Jose, California federal court that Samsung's Galaxy line of tablets and mobile phones infringed several patents and "slavishly" copied its iPads and iPhones.

"Samsung chose to copy Apple, not to innovate," Apple said in a July 1 court filing. It said Samsung is trying to trade off Apple's popularity by calling products, such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet and Galaxy S 4G smartphone, "just like an iPad" or "just like an iPhone."

But Samsung countered that Apple infringed five patents, and on June 29 asked the ITC to block imports of such products as the iPhone 4, iPad 2 3G and iPod Touch.

A copy of Apple's ITC complaint was not immediately available but the ITC website shows that one was filed. The ITC is an independent federal agency overseeing trade disputes.

Apple, a lawyer for Apple and a lawyer for Samsung did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Galaxy products use Google Inc's Android operating system, which competes with Apple's mobile software.

Apple had in 2010 been Samsung's second-largest customer, accounting for $5.7 billion of sales tied mainly to semiconductors, according to Samsung's annual report.

Sony Corp is Samsung's largest customer. Last week, Apple asked the San Jose court for a preliminary injunction to block imports of infringing products.

Apple is based in Cupertino, California, and Samsung in Suwon City, South Korea. Apple's complaint is In re: Certain Electronic Digital Media Devices and Components Thereof, US International Trade Commission, No. 2827. Samsung's complaint is In re: Mobile Electronic Devices, Including Wireless Communication Devices, Portable Music and Data Processing Devices, and Tablet Computers at the same agency, No. 2824.
